Winemaking:
Our grapes for this wine come from two vineyards just to the south of McLaren Vale: Farm Block, planted in 1985 and Hut Block, planted in 1998. We aim for a structured Merlot with good depth and a fine tannin while retaining the opulence typical of the variety. Individual batches were pressed prior to dryness then oak matured following malo-lactic fermentation. The style of wine to which we aspire is one that shows good length and sweet fruit with well structured tannins and excellent length – a more up-market Australian style.
Background:
Roses are synonymous with the Hamilton family with rose gardens surrounding our vineyards in McLaren Vale. The Rosette series proudly celebrates the family’s long standing in the South Australian wine industry since 1837.
Vintage Conditions:
The McLaren Vale weather conditions leading up to the 2022 vintage were ideal for the crafting of quality red and white wines. Above average rainfall in winter and near average in spring provided the moisture needed to sustain the vines over the ripening period. Cold and windy conditions during flowering in November resulted in open clusters with corresponding lower yields. Despite lower-than-average rains in summer, temperatures were free of extremes and provided ideal slow ripening with a delayed commencement of harvest. The resulting wines have great intensity, with bright colours in reds, and a good degree of elegance.
