Leconfield Coonawarra was established in 1974 by noted oenologist, Sydney Hamilton. He named his estate Leconfield, after his English ancestor, Lord Leconfield, who resided in Petworth Manor House in the south of England. Coonawarra vineyards take full advantage of the region’s famous terra rossa soils, with Leconfield Manor House Cabernet Sauvignon exhibiting dark red berries and blackcurrant flavours, met with exceptional structure and length.

Most people are well and truly retired at 76. Not oenologist Sydney Hamilton, whom after 60 years in winemaking decided to establish Leconfield. Hence the name 76. This is just beautiful. It combines the elegance you get with Coonawarra with the inherent power and structure of Cabernet from this great region. A mix of tobacco leaf and blackcurrant with a little oyster shell minerality. Firm fine chalky tannins contribute to the controlled restraint of the palate which extends effortlessly to a very long finish. Destined for a lengthy stay in the cellar.

2021 was a wonderful vintage for the Coonawarra region and this is an exciting addition to what has been on offer. An inky opaque purple, with a superb ‘Cabernet’ nose. Seamless in structure with a seductive texture and bright acidity, this is fresh, well balanced and offering excellent length. The nose exhibits notes of blackberries, chocolate, cloves, cedar, graphite, tobacco leaves and cocoa powder. Much to like here and this will drink beautifully for the next ten to fifteen years. An excellent example of a Coonawarra Cabernet at the top of its game.
