RICHARD HAMILTON WINES

Steeped in History, Absorbed by Wine, Unwavering Devotion, Crafting Liquid Gold

Richard Hamilton Wines are reflective of the distinctive McLaren Vale region with its Mediterranean climate producing great value, fruit driven wines. The Hamilton family have been involved in winemaking and grape growing for five generations. Dr Richard Hamilton now continues his family’s long tradition of involvement in the wine industry.

The McLaren Vale vineyards are some of the oldest vines in the region. The vineyard that produces the Centurion Old Vines Shiraz was established in 1892. Grenache vines dating back to 1947 were planted by Richard’s father, Burton Hamilton, at Burton’s Vineyard. Shiraz was planted in 1963 and Cabernet Sauvignon in 1968. The Richard Hamilton range sources premium white wine varieties from the cool climate Adelaide Hills.

Richard Hamilton are great value wines from vineyards which consistently produce wines of award-winning quality.

STEEPED IN HISTORY – CRAFTING WINE IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA SINCE 1837

Grape growing in the Hamilton family dates back to 1837 when Richard Hamilton (1792-1852) took out Land Order 449 in the colony f South Australia. After a journey of 4 months from England on the Katherine Stewart Forbes, he arrived at Holdfast Bay, near Adelaide, with his wife and eight children on October 17, 1837. Shortly after his arrival he planted the first vineyards on the Adelaide plains from cuttings sourced from a friend in Cape Town. These vines formed the foundations of the Hamilton Ewell Wine Company.

The rest, as they say, is history…
